# Adding a product

> Add your products and link them to the frameworks that apply.

<Note>
  **Quick summary**

  * Add every product you build. Give each one a description, assign owners if you like, and choose the frameworks that apply to it.
  * Once you've added a product, you can tag documents, evidence, hazards and incidents to it, then filter by it later.
  * You can add a product during Company setup, or at any time from the **Products** page.
</Note>

## Why products matter

Almost everything in Assuric can be tagged to a product, which matters most when you have more than one.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Products">
    Click **Products** in the sidebar, then **New Product**, or add one during Company Setup.

    Existing products appear as tiles, with a toolbar for searching and filtering by *Product Phase*, *Jurisdictions*, *Owner* and *Tags*.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a New Product">
    <Frame caption="The New Product form with name, owner, description, medical device, jurisdictions, phase and tags fields.">
      <img src="https://mintcdn.com/assuric-docs/3pU4Zhz_WDhPgL4s/images/getting-started/new-product-modal.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=3pU4Zhz_WDhPgL4s&q=85&s=5af25202f36e72711ff711b1b86bd385" alt="The New Product form with name, owner, description, medical device, jurisdictions, phase and tags fields" width="800" height="720" data-path="images/getting-started/new-product-modal.png" />
    </Frame>

    * *Product Name*
    * *Product owners* (optional): the person or people responsible for this product.
    * *Product Description*: a brief description of what your product does and how it operates. You can add a detailed intended use statement later.
    * *Medical device?* Tick this if your product classifies as a medical device or software as a medical device (SaMD).
    * *Jurisdictions*: the countries you intend the product to be used in.
    * *Phase*: the product's stage of development: *Development*, *Pilot*, *Deployment*, *Maintenance* or *Deprecated*.
    * *Tags* (optional): your own free-form labels.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Map your frameworks">
    Click **Continue to map frameworks** and select the frameworks that apply to this product.

    <Columns cols={2}>
      <Column>
        <Frame caption="The framework search dropdown, listing available frameworks.">
          <img src="https://mintcdn.com/assuric-docs/FS6QJWWhjXtVmjPq/images/getting-started/framework-select-dropdown.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=FS6QJWWhjXtVmjPq&q=85&s=b30439fbd7c0adda9c292d213e19e021" alt="The framework search dropdown, listing available frameworks" width="795" height="585" data-path="images/getting-started/framework-select-dropdown.png" />
        </Frame>
      </Column>

      <Column>
        <Frame caption="A framework selected, with its tasks already pulled in and checked.">
          <img src="https://mintcdn.com/assuric-docs/FS6QJWWhjXtVmjPq/images/getting-started/framework-tasks-populated.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=FS6QJWWhjXtVmjPq&q=85&s=9247a13c6a96f42e76f6af5032b845f1" alt="A framework selected, with its tasks already pulled in and checked" width="796" height="577" data-path="images/getting-started/framework-tasks-populated.png" />
        </Frame>
      </Column>
    </Columns>

    Only frameworks with per-product tasks are listed. Organisation-wide ones, such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001 and [DSPT](/assuric-overview/glossary#abbreviations), are [done once for your organisation](/frameworks/key-capabilities#organisation-wide-and-per-product-work), so they don't appear here.

    Selecting a framework pulls in its tasks, including the [product-specific ones](/tasks/product-specific-tasks). Click **Add Tasks** to add them now (we recommend it), or **Skip** to come back later.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Build out the product record">
    Once you've added a product, it gets its own page. Any documents, evidence and hazard logs you tag to that product appear there automatically, and you can track its progress against each framework.

    <Frame caption="A product record showing its frameworks, key documents and evidence.">
      <img src="https://mintcdn.com/assuric-docs/3pU4Zhz_WDhPgL4s/images/getting-started/product-record-detail.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=3pU4Zhz_WDhPgL4s&q=85&s=f48e1c82286a0dcd73ec2c4b483fcb63" alt="A product record showing its frameworks, key documents and evidence" width="767" height="940" data-path="images/getting-started/product-record-detail.png" />
    </Frame>
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Filtering by product

Once you've added your products, you can filter by them across Assuric, including your tasks, hazard log, incidents and documents. This makes it easier for teams working on different products to manage their own compliance work separately. For example, in the hazard log:

<Frame caption="The hazard log's Products filter, open to choose which product to filter to.">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/assuric-docs/FS6QJWWhjXtVmjPq/images/getting-started/hazard-log-filtered-by-product.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=FS6QJWWhjXtVmjPq&q=85&s=d7c2390ff55ffaa1a7ca58b6a358801f" alt="The hazard log's Products filter open, listing products to filter by" width="1099" height="579" data-path="images/getting-started/hazard-log-filtered-by-product.png" />
</Frame>

<Tip>
  **What we recommend**

  Add every product before you start building your hazard log or document set: tagging as you go is quick, but going back to tag hundreds of records is slow.
