# Ask questions about your workspace

> Use Auto mode to ask about your policies and records, turn on Think, search the web, and manage your chats.

<Note>
  **Quick summary**

  * **Auto** is the default mode of [Ask Assuric](/ask-assuric/overview). Ask a question and it answers from your documents.
  * Set the source below the message box to *Web* to search outside Assuric, and check answers against the official source.
  * *Think* reasons before it replies, for harder questions, and is off until you click it.
</Note>

Use Auto for an answer rather than an action, such as what a policy says.

## Ask about your documents

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Ask Assuric">
    Press **Ctrl+J**, or click **Ask** at the top of the sidebar. **Auto** is already selected.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask your question">
    Leave the source on *Assuric Docs*, the default. For example:

    > What does our Information Security Policy say about how often it is reviewed, and which version is currently approved?

    Click **Send**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the answer and its sources">
    The answer names the approved version and its approval date, and lists the document it used under *Sources*. Click the document to open it beside the chat, with the cited passages highlighted and a list of citations to jump between.

    </Frame>
  </Step>
</Steps>

To change your hazard log or work through a questionnaire, choose the [Hazard Log Assistant](/ask-assuric/hazard-log-assistant) or Questionnaire Assistant mode instead.

## Search the web instead

Choose *Web* in the source picker under the message box. It replaces *Assuric Docs*, because you choose one source at a time.

<Frame caption="With the source set to Web, the reply lists the pages it drew on under Web Sources.">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/assuric-docs/nTITDjxsAqD6F-03/images/ask-assuric/web-answer.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=nTITDjxsAqD6F-03&q=85&s=0a8d193fba5e7b7a2f1c99de681e2390" alt="A web answer about the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit with five web sources listed below it" width="1822" height="720" data-path="images/ask-assuric/web-answer.png" />
</Frame>

Web answers come from pages outside Assuric, so check them against the official source. For a regulator's requirements, that's the regulator's own page.

## Think, and adding context

* *Think* reasons through the question before it replies. It's off until you click it, then turns violet. Use it for harder questions, such as mapping one policy to several frameworks.
* **+** adds something to work with: **Upload file**, **Add document** or **Add evidence**.

## Chat history

Every conversation is saved in **Chat History** on the left of the chat. Open one to go back to it, or click **New Chat**. Each chat is titled for you; its options let you **Rename** or **Delete** it.

## Settings

Click the gear at the top of the chat to open **Settings → AI Settings**, where you turn the assistant button on or off and set the floating chat's size.

<Frame caption="AI Settings. Choose whether the assistant button shows on every page, and how large the floating chat is.">
